Rant

Well... the NFL season has officially begun. Week one is over and we move onto Week two.

Now I have a question about the "touch down". I'm not entirely sure why it is called a "Touch Down". The ball doesn't have to "touch" the ground... your feet don't even have to be "touching" the ground. The ball literally has to be held over the line in the End Zone to be considered a "Touch Down". I'm sorry but I am failing to understand how thats a "touch down". I can understand it a little more when your feet are at least in the End Zone, at least that is a part of your body touching the ground while holding the ball. But just holding the ball over the line, while your feet are on the other side of the line, doesn't make much sense to me. Now coming from a Rugby mind set... where the ball has to actually touch the ground, I can't understand how in American Football the ball doesn't have to touch the ground, or any other part of your body for that matter. The ball just has to hover in your hands over the line to be considered a "Touch Down".

So why is it called a Touch Down?
