My Opinion ON: The US Army Tape Test
Well, I have a few things to say about the Army Tape Test, something to say about its particular ridiculousness.
The tape test is performed to give you your body mass. You take your height, your weight and then you do the tape test. If you are over your weight allowance for your height. So the way they perform this tape test is beyond wrong. I'm not entirely sure what they do for women, but I know what they do for men. For the men, they take a measuring tape and they tape you around your abdomen, at belly button level, and around your neck just under your Adams apple. Now, I'm trying to find someone that can explain to me the whole neck taping and what it has to do with your body mass. For the life of me, I cannot understand the neck being taped. It makes zero sense to me. What does it have to do with your waist?! In my opinion absolutely nothing!!!
Now if the Army, if you fail this test for 3 months in a row you can be chapter out. (Kicked out)
Meaning that:
1. It doesn't matter if you can pass your PT test with flying colours (running, push ups and sit ups)
2. That you know your job
3. That you've never had an Article 15 (disciplinary action)
4. That you've never broken the law, Or;
5. You've put in time defending your country due to deployments
All that matters in the Army, is how you look in your uniform. Its ludicrous. There are men and women out there that have put in years and years of service and they're getting the boot because they can't pass the tape test. Its ridiculous!!!
You can do drugs and get away with it.
You can get a DUI (drunk driving) and get away with it.
But... you can't fail that tape test and get away with it!!!
The military needs to come up with a new way to discover BMI. I know that there are other ways out there, but the army doesn't want to put forward the expense! Well when it comes to these men and women that are finding themselves in a discharge position they deserve the expense to be paid. They deserve the best chance they can get.
I am a believer in that if you can't pass your PT test, then yes... You should be taped. But if you can pass it, and you pass it well you don't deserve to be scrutinized with a tape test and having the threat of being kick out thrown in your face!!!
The Army has some warped views on a lot of things, and this is the number 1 thing that is messed up. There are other things that are problematic... Like Lt's who think they're bad asses because they were handed their rank, and didn't do anything to really earn it, other then go to college.
So people know this about the US Army:
Go out and get a DUI and put other peoples lives in danger by driving drunk... you could not only kill yourself but a complete stranger with your lack of morals!!! (sarcasm does not work well in print) But the army will just give you a slap on the wrist and turn a blind eye by not doing anything, oh wait they'll demote you 1 rank... HARSH I know. *rolling my eyes*
DO Drugs and set a horrible example for people, friends and family. Hurt the ones you love by doing these horible things... the Army won't care. They'll just slap you on the wrist again for such an exuberant action.
But DON'T YOU DARE fail that tape test. They'll kick your ass to the curb!!!

Foot Paths
I'm finding it hard to understand why people refuse to walk on foot paths. Foot paths are built for FEET. Roads are built for CARS. It is not the first time this has happened to me... the first time I was driving home and 2 teenage girls were walking on the road, and they did NOT move for my car. I wanted to honk at them but I wasn't the one driving. The second time it happened, it was 2 adults pushing a STROLLER!!! Now they should have known better! Who pushes a stoller while walking on the street... if you don't give a shit about your life, that is fine by me, but for goodness sake take care of that child in the stroller and put him/her on the foot path out of harms way.
Today took the cake!!! It was about 5 teenagers, walking down one of the main roads in my housing division. They saw the car coming, and not only were they walking on the street when we were getting closer they decided to stop and have a conversation while standing on the road. Now I know that when I was younger I walked on the road, but if I EVER saw a car coming I would always move onto the foot path and I never ever walked on a main road in the middle of the street.
Foot Paths are put there for your own safety and I wish people could realise that. Its like when people cross the road away from the crossway part, and are about 10 - 20 feet away from it. If you want to cross the road safely then walked on the cross walk. That was also put there for your safety!!!

Weekends
Ask a random person:
Question: What are weekends for?
And they will most likely respond with:
Answer: Relaxation and rest.
Ask someone in the Army: What are weekends for?
And they will most likely respond with:
Training.
I vented about the 82nd in my previous post, I just have this one more thing to add (for now). This coming weekend my husband has been told he'll be going into the field for 2 nights. Leaving Friday and coming back Sunday. Will he get Monday off for working over the weekend? NO, he won't.
The thing I really hate (as of today), is how the people that are in charge of the unit my husband is in can't find a perfectly good week day to do this on. Week days are "WORK" days. Weekends are "RELAX" days. Why they chose to ruin everyones weekend it beyond me... oh wait no its not. This way they lower the risk of anyone getting a DUI, or I dunno, say, HAVING A LIFE!!!
Its a wonder the men are so demoralized in the 82nd. They have absolutely no free time!
On another note... I don't like how that when I make a doctors appointment, my husbands boss is notified. What business is it of his that I have an appointment. I would understand if it was an appointment in w

82nd
I have a few grievances regarding the 82nd Airborne.
First: today, being Sunday, my husband was called into work to pull weeds! The reason for the weed pulling was because someone in a the troop got a DUI. So they've decided to punish everyone.
Secondly: the stance they have on PT is let's run a 6 minute mile, every mile for 8 miles. And then once we are done running we will yell at everyone that fell out of the run. Correct me if I'm wrong, but not everyone can run that fast for that long. Not everyone is a runner. Oh and they do this every day!
Thirdly: the tape test. The tape test has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. First off, to determine BMI correctly you need to do the test correctly. Taping someone's neck and abdominal area is ridiculous. What does the neck have to do with anything? The way I see it a tape test should only be performed if you can't pass your PT test. Plus it needs to be revised. Do they not realize that the way people eat and live is a whole lot different to what it was in the 1950s?
Fourthly: the late hours they keep. There are days that my husband doesn't get home until 7pm. And on the "payday activities" day when they're supposed to be off by noon, my husband doesn't get off until 3 - 5 pm.
Is it not more important to be up to par on your job then to be able to run a 6 minute mile? Because when you are in combat your job and knowledge and skill is what is important not the quickness you can run. There is a sign in the office of a Captain that my husband works by that says "work to time not to standard". Shouldn't they be working to standard? Are the 82nd's views so skewed that they are more concerned about running and willingness to jump out
of planes? Shouldn't they be more concerned with work knowledge, training and teaching. The 82nd is the worst duty stationed I have ever been to. The last base we were at was bad and had poor leadership but the leadership here... Well it's demoralizing. There have been three suicides this passed month, all on the same day.
Getting yelled at for something that had nothing to do with you is wrong. Promoting people because they can run and not because they can do there jobs is wrong. Fort Bragg needs a massive overhaul. The leaders need to follow the standards put down for them. They need to stop demoralizing there soldiers. Let's face it in a combat situation your MOS is priority, your knowledge.
People getting these DUIs or in general screwing up, are bringing everyone around them down with them.
One last thing... I think the people in charge need a taste of there own medicine. I'd hate think how they would react if they were forced to pull weeds for someone else's wrong doing.

Hockey Game
The other day on a spur of the moment type thing B decided we should go to a NHL game. I didn't particularly want to go, as the Rink is about a hour and half away, but once we got there I sure as hell didn't want to leave. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I absolutely love HOCKEY! It is so fast, and violent and exciting... oh I LOVED IT!!! The tickets were amazingly cheap, as we went to see 2 of the worst teams in the league. I guess they're both just having an off season. I can't wait for us to go back again. And the goalie is a friggin' ninja, they're so quick, its ridiculous!!!

Automated Messages
Automated Messages drive me F'ing insane!!!!!!!
So this morning I had to call the post office to find out if they offered a service, which FYI they don't anymore! Anyhow, so I call the 1800 number because I couldn't find the local branches direct number. So I'm on the phone for 10 minutes with an automated service asking me the same thing repeatedly. I don't know how many different ways to say "Customer Service" without getting pissed off. So finally I get angry and yell "Representative", the machine responds with "Did you say Customer Service?" ummm... No I f'ing didn't, I said Representative!!! I say Customer Service and get nothing, I say Representative and get Customer Service. So annoying!!! I would really like to be able to pick up the phone and call somewhere and not have to talk to a robot. I would love it if a person picked up first thing and they took my information. Instead of having to type in the information on my phone. Why oh Why did they get rid of actually people working instead of robots? This country has a lack of jobs... here's an idea... STOP USING ROBOTS!!! Hire actual people. There are people out there that are willing to work! Oh and if you call the wrong department by mistake, transfer them to the correct one and don't be a bitch about it. UGH... its been a hell of a morning.
Then I call the bank, and I understand having to put in your account info, so it makes it a little faster. I was so glad that that's all they asked for, no other stupid crap. I got put right on through to a living breathing person. Found out they don't provide the service to non-members so it was a dead end, but it was a nice non-aggravating way to find out the information that I required.
